Most of us have the best of intentions to look after ourselves better, and we see this in all the New Years resolutions, the self-help section of the bookstore, and the the 'be a better version of yourself' images on social media. Somehow, with the way we live our modern lives, self-care becomes an afterthought.
The catch is, the busier life becomes, the more important it is to prioritise self-care. But what is it?
Self-care is taking an active role in managing your health and well-being. The next question is, why does it always fall by the wayside?
When Life Gets In The Way
One of the main reasons we neglect self-care is 'I don’t have time'. Yes life does get busy, and sometimes it can feel like this is a never-ending wheel. Yet time is a concept that is warped depending on how we view it. Being present often plays a large role in how much time we think we have, as we take much longer to do anything. The more present we are, the more we can stretch time.
Why Is It Important?
If you have ever given yourself a bit of time for self-care (think a massage, a bath, a holiday etc), then you will know that it doesn't take much to rejuvenate and replenish your energy and zest for life. The more you give yourself this time, the more your mind and physical body have the chance to regenerate.
How Can You Make it a Priority?
Stop spending energy on feeling guilty for not making it a priority. Start small, with just 2 minutes, 5 minutes, or whatever amount of time is realistic for your day - lower your expectations. Remember that changing your habits and routines takes time and patience is key.
If you would like support in making self-care a priority, then you may find coming along to a Self-Love workshop to be the inspiration you need!
With love & care, Rose xx
