Frankincense - Essential Oil Spotlight


Frankincense is most known from the Christian story along with the gifts of Gold and Myrrh. This incredible resin has been in used for thousands of years and has always been treasured for its many benefits.

Frankincense is derived from the boswellia tree, native to southern India. This versatile oil has been used in spiritual practices throughout history, but also in the treatment of various health conditions. It continues to be used for many modern ailments, and has the following benefits:

Hormone Balancing

Frankincense essential oil is beneficial to most women for balancing hormones. It can relieve pre-menstrual symptoms, reduce symptoms of hormone-related conditions such as cysts, and impact on relieving mood swings and cramps.

Anti-Inflammatory An extract of frankincense has been found to be beneficial for arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Other inflammatory conditions that it may be beneficial for include asthma, gout and bowl conditions.

Clears Airways

By diffusing frankincense essential oil, this can help to clear airways and soothe lungs. When inhaled the oil acts as an anti-inflammatory and relaxes breathing passages.

Reduces Stress

Frankincense can help to reduce anxiety, lower stress levels, and dispel negative emotions. This makes it perfect for a meditation or yoga practice as it promotes peace and calm.

This oil can be used as an antiseptic when mixed with a carrier oil. It can protect against infections and can speed up wound healing.

Frankincense essential oil can aid in cell rejuvenation. When used topically on old scars of surgery, wart removal or acne, it can reduce scarring. This is the same for stretch marks associated with weight gain or pregnancy.

Balances Skin Health

As we head into Winter, the dry air can leave your skin dry and may lead to cracking. Frankincense oil can rehydrate your skin and also the cuticles and edges of your fingernails. Cancer Prevention

This potent oil is being researched due to its anti-inflammatory properties. The compounds in frankincense have been found to be an enemy to cancerous cells, and is therapeutic for ovarian cancer. It has also been found to be effective against breast, colon and prostate cancers.

How To Use

Topical: Apply 2–4 drops directly to desired area. Dilution not required, except for the most sensitive skin. Use as needed. Aromatic: Diffuse up to 1 hour 3 times daily. Culinary: Add to food or drink recipes to create another layer of flavour. Storage: Store in a cool, dark place.
